Accessible Indoor Maps

Mobility is an everyday aspect where maps help us to get an overview of local conditions. However, people, especially people with disabilities, have different requirements for the information on maps. This presentation addresses the accessibility of maps and focuses on building maps, in particular the recording of building features as well as the map presentation for people with blindness, visual as well as mobility impairments.
Within the presentation on the topic of “Accessible Indoor Maps”, the complex field of indoor map presentation for people with blindness, visual and mobility impairments will be addressed. In particular, the usefulness and relevance of freely available indoor map data will be demonstrated, and the need for specific accessibility information will be explained. Furthermore, ideas for solutions to collect the required data will be presented and discussed. The focus is on assuming that the traveler wants to get information about the local conditions in advance. The relevance of this topic is based on the finding that only a few georeferenced indoor maps (e.g., on OpenStreetMap) are suitable for the accessible representation of buildings.

Analysis Tool for Simple Indoor Tagging based on OsmInEdit

The demo presents a tool for analyzing indoor maps based on Simple Indoor Tagging, built on OsmInEdit.
The number of complete indoor maps tagged with Simple Indoor Tagging is small and the information contained in them as well as their quality varies. To support the mapping process, a tool based on OsmInEdit was developed, which analyzes the aspects of room geometry, accessibility of rooms as well as the presence of required information for people with disabilities. It represents incompleteness or errors within the maps using freely selectable Achievements. The mappers are free to choose which Achievements they want to reach and are supported by the tool, e.g. by being informed about overlapping rooms or missing information. The goal of the 30-minute demo is to present the developed tool and its possible applications.
